It replaced the USDA's MyPyramid guide on June 2, 2011, ending 19 years of USDA food pyramid diagrams. MyPlate is displayed on food packaging and used in nutrition education in the United States. MyPlate is based on the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Based on the food plan a simple questionnaire leads to an individual diet plan that can easily be retrieved from the MyPlate Website. Fruits, Vegetables and Whole Grains

MyPlate highly recommends a high percentage of fruit, vegetables and grains for a healthy nutrition. We have based our diet on these three food groups for years and it pays back. My husband and I are fit and active and we love our eating style.

Very important: we never have the impression "not to be allowed to eat what we like for health reasons". The opposite is right: our food is tasty, spicy and at the same time it helps us to have the high quality input for a powerful output.

And be assured, from experience, too: with a healthy nutrition basis an occasional glass of red wine for dinner or a bowl of ice cream for dessert won't hurt. It's all about the balance.

Why Eat a Smoothie and Why for Breakfast?

This is not scientific. It's my own and my families experience. And it's based on a principle of common sense: find out what works and stick with it.

For me this Smoothie recipe works like a charm and that´s why I need to share t with you. Watch the video and see for yourself: it´s no big deal to prepare a healthy, tasty breakfast (it´s easier and faster than many unhealthy dishes, as a matter of fact).

Looking at the 15 position ingredients list, it becomes clear: there's a lot of good stuff in it. Hard to imagine how to eat it without using the blender and make a smoothie.

Ingredients for Two Servings:

2  Handful Baby Spinach
1  Tea Spoon Turmeric
1  Tea Spoon Ginger
1  Banana
1  Half Cup Pineapple
1  Half Cup Strawberries
1  Half Cup Celery
1  Half Cup Blueberries
1  Table Spoon Chia Seeds
1  Table Spoon Flaxseeds
1  Lemon – Squeezed Juice
½  Cup Coconut Milk
1 ½  Cups Water

Nice story from experience: a couple of months ago our blender stopped to cooperate so we could not use it for the smoothie. We managed to cut everything and ate a fruit and veggie plate instead.

It's doable, but really, without the "blending" it was kind of an uphill struggle and lacking the usual fun to enjoy. 

And we missed the taste. You will find out when you try: my smoothie is not only healthy, it´s very tasty, too. And if you vary the ingredients, e.g. replace strawberries with oranges, you will find out how strongly the taste varies with just one change. It´s fun to experiment.

Above All: Have Fun with Smoothies

Well, we all have our moments during the morning mirror test. Nevertheless, what we see is true and it´s ok. I can really say: my mornings are good when my husband and I find time to enjoy our fruit and veggie smoothie before we leave the house for work.
